#22: Sew Myself a Piece of Clothing

This is my hazel from Colette Patterns!! I made it out of one of my late grandma's old moo moos. I used almost all the fabric from the moomoo, all cut up and stuff. I did not sew it expertly but it's holding together. !! I made it for the RollerCon Riedell Luau!! Looking forward to it. Also will probably sew another hazel or two. It's a great dress. Modifications? No zipper, shorter straps, and a way shorter skirt.  I'm a tart.

HOME SWEET HOME!!

Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home
A project that I've been working on with Laura for the past six months is finally coming to fruition: Home Sweet Home!
Home Sweet Home is a DIY, craft, how-to blog that is centred around the idea of Home. Home in your kitchen. Home in your craft. and Home in your community! We'll be featuring house tours and interviews with our favourite bloggers, crafters, cooks, and sewers, as well as recipes, DIYs, essays, etc.

Add us to your blogroll and keep in touch!

Also, most ohsweetie Home Sweet Home content will get moved over to HSH, thus returning ohsweetie back to it's self-obsessed narcissistic beginnings. Let the pining begin bitchez.

best walk of life

Did you watch the Proenza Schouler live runway show? I didn't get to b/c i had errands to run and babies to pick up. But, I'm watching now and here's my favourite shots (from vogue's live photo wall thingy)!

i love the shiny aqua/teal velvet and the zigzags. i feel like this entire collection secretly inspired by MIA from her galang galang days.
so ARULAR and mish-mash guatemalan exports. i probably wont incorporate any of this into my wardrobe though
now, this i wont incorporate either, but i'm loving the resurgence of pattern on pattern.  finethankyou... called this one the other day when he emailed me that mishmash of cosby sweaters ahaha.
the statement necklace has been big for the past few years and i like this one. faux fur let's hope and CLAWS so tough and witchy and bitchy i love it.
Now, Marc by marc jacobs also showed up yesterday and I'm finally getting to look at the photos and i want so much of it and i die. i just die! i want one of everything and want to sew all my friends replicas. the shine! the tweed! the shoes! the ankle socks! the bags! the velvet jackets! YEEPS!

there was a nice predominance of "fall" colours in this collection. so 70s. that sweater, just great. with that big cable. gush.
camel hair sweater? derek, make this for yourself. Me? I want the laptop bag.
I like these higher waist hunting/woodland animal themed printed skirts. they look so silky and soft.
cropped jackets in marc. cropped sweaters. cropped cropped cropped. the waist has moved up.
velvet jackets. yes.
i want this dress, or something like it, like nobody's business. i think i'll have to make one, somehow.

fashion week!

i blame getting my hands on my grandma's old clothes, and the re-inspiration to start putting outfits together, but in the last few weeks i've been revisiting my love of clothes and sewing and fashion. it's not like it has ever gone away, it's just re-kindled? re- re- re- re- re-! here's some of my favourites!

marc jacobs. i think i'm going to try and make myself that skirt or similar, but shorter. oooh, and polka dot tights! need.

i love this sweater from badgley mischka.  i might try and reconstruct it using plastic/acrylic yarn and massive sequins....

OMG sweater. (Rodarte)

love this super open black hoodie (and all the black) - RAD by Rad Hourani

I love this dress from Zero + Maria Cornejo. i might rework it into a tunic t-shirt.

and like always i die for betsey johnson (though i'm still waiting for marc by mj and proenza schouler).

"this is death of [my to do list], moment of silence"

badges and buttons!
horses!
me trying to figure out the placement of our birch wallpaper!
at the very least today i got a few things from my list done: i made the bulletin boards, i painted the hallway (two coats), and fixed up my messes from painting the chalkboard wall. after that we ended up going to get a blizzard and since then i've reloaded stewart's computer (again) and basically crashed from the sugar. oh! and i started laying out our birch wall mural. it's not as art-print as i thought, more photo, but i f'in love it! the panels are a little screwy but it comes with the paste and you put up the pieces as squares! it's going to be so fun and will definitely fit with our woodland/colonization-themed living room. there's more pictures over on the flickr. and will be more tomorrow once i get the rest of the wallpaper up in the AM.

while stewart was moving stuff from helvetica's room (which still needs to be drywalled, painted, and set up) he slowly unpacked some things like our slew of badges/buttons, and pens/pencils, a bag with my knitted shrug in it that i thought i lost, and found the lid to my water bottle. we didn't unpack a single box to completion but just coming across my ceramic cupcakes (!!), my kokeshi dolls (!!!), and my skulls pillowcase was enough to remind me that i do have so many awesome things already and i don't need to stress about putting my place together so much. it also reassured me that i haven't lost myself by moving here (not that i think that often) but to see my nearest and dearest books, markers, and doo-dads was enough for me to remember how much awesomeness i have around me! that my collecting isn't for want!! and that i've survived 5 months of it being in a box! now i just need to get it out of those boxes!! off to hunt down some food!

blah blah blah blah blah

painting the grey on our living room wall!
at this moment stewart's watching the fourth kind and i happily debunked the myth that it's true! why do horror movies seem to be falling into the typical trap (as mocked in Scream), these "true" movies, and then all the remakes of the great 80s films? i can't even really watch them, esp. ones about paranormal activity (ghosts, etc), but i'm kinda intrigued by the industry. and considering what people like about them? what do people like about horror movies?? so weird.

anyway, it's easter! i'm not big on holidays (except for "the holidays") but would guess that i'll get more into them as soon as helvetica gets out of my womb. i'm excited for the forthcoming heidi kenney book on holiday crafts for kids as she's so good at doing fun, hip, and well done kids crafts, parties, and events (her blog has a long running history of filling up my bookmarks). i've also started bookmarking the kid-friendly stuff that comes across on the kitchn, ohdeedoh, apartment therapy, craft zine, and whatever blogs i'm reading. which is fun! i can't wait to have so much fun!

i also painted our living room, first coat, in its grey tone, called duckdown. tomorrow morning i'll do a second coat and then move onto the yellowish grey kitchen space (that one's called apple slice!). i'm kind of allergic to latex paint so it's always an adventure! next friday our wallpaper comes in and i'm SO SO SO SO SO excited!

okay, off to find my knitting and some pants.......

"this isn't what i thought it would be, this is the saddest summer ever"

knitted tshirt for helvetica
today is good. i called in "sick" to work to ensure i don't get my bonus and thus my mat leave can start on time rather than later. and i love being home. so good. so far i've knit, tidied, gone shopping with stewart, slept in, pulled out more thesis books (and drafted the end in my head, yay!), knit, started making Naan, sorted out stewart's last few garbage bags of clothes (they were driving me crazy! he has 2 pink button up shirts!!), and am almost all caught up on the q podcasts (one more to go). i'm going to finish up the next little bit by knitting (i'm working on my own version of the autumn leaves vest from pickles as pictured above. it's a great pattern but i'm putting in red striped instead of the daisy stitch. i can't wait!!!! maybe i can even get it done tonight.

pickles has some super adorable and awesome patterns (and yarns) that i'm lusting after and just dreaming of making. most of them are free and the pictures are great! like this cabled vest! or these winter accessories! and this sailor vest! and non knitting, this bike seat cover!

basically i want to make things all the time.
