The End of an Era: So Long TBT

Well, my goal of finishing TBT isn't happening because I will not have readily available internet at home (and haven't for the past two weeks). That doesn't mean I'm not thinking about it every day, nor pushing myself, and look forward to the odd update on here. We just got back from our holiday north and I'm sad to be "home" back in Port Alberni. Big changes for me in the future. Big changes for Stewart. Big changes for our family. New careers. An ever growing toddler. New living situation. Different priorities. The Future. Looking forward to it.

The day we left I bought me and stewart iPhones! it was nice to leave both my camera and iPod at home :) All my pictures were taken using the App "Toy Camera" which is a nice alternative to instagram. No social media or networking (but I can upload to twitter) and it wasn't just bought out by facebook. So many good times. Friends, family, food, roller derby!

In the Car! Our home for two whole weeks!

stop over in gold pan for glamour shots with bryndis.

Seth found some truck at the park and loved it (in pg)

The seven sisters on the way to Terrace. It rained bullets the whole way back to PG, so happy we got a sun shiny view of them.

Stewart finds out that Derby girls even loved him when he was in high school!

A farm and nursery near my dad's house has horses. My niece loves going there, and seth did too, though he was too afraid to get close to the horses.

Running around in Clinton. this little town will always be in my heart.

One of my many food foibles.

Last night on the road.

cybernetic meadow

first off, may has been absolutely busy and just a good wallop on the head. it seems like it was *just* easter and we were *just* in vancouver, but the busy-ness of work and roller derby have obviously conspired against me and BAM! here i am post-may long weekend and so few May 2011 posts to show for it. (i also blame my expired flickr, but that's neither here nor there). what i also don't understand is that i just dumped some pictures onto my computer and went back through my may/april photos and there isn't a single photo of us in vancouver. which means it's official: we have a toddler. and doing anything other than take care of him is exhausting. i have barely knit in forever and can't really use the computer when he's around. that being said, hanging out with him and cuddling in bed with him are the best. just the best. i'm not going to say something cliche like "this is what all the hard work is for"..because it's not. the hard work sucks regardless of the cuddles. but the dude. he's pretty fun! (and walking everywhere! and running too!)

this weekend we went with the ladies to miracle beach. it rained. and i slept (ie. cuddled with seth) a lot. but it was nice to get out of the valley (though i've done it so much lately). it was also great to be UNPLUGGED and not at work. oh yeeeaaaah.

the whole time i couldn't help myself from being so happy that we live on this island. i want to go camping again. once i get all the laundry washed and the camping stuff de-sanded!!

holidaze...october 2010

oh my, we were on the road for too long. and while i had a great time, stewart sounds kind of lackluster about it, and i think we were just gone for too long. next time we should split our holidays up. less people. less cray cray. while we were gone our babe became a 6 month old without actually being 6 months old. he's eating solids like a champ and jumping in his exercauser and then holding his arms out like "ta-da!". it's ridiculous. we came home to an excavated lawn (they're building a courtyard and stairs and stuff. it's crazy. next spring i'll post good pictures. and a clean house (so happy i left it that way). i spent all the time at home sorting out new clothes for seth, putting away a bit of our holiday mess, and uploading pictures. so, here's a few of those pictures, way more over on flickr. i can't wait until seth goes to bed so i can watch gossip girl. and a few episodes of house.

burrowing owl.

stew's grandma's house used to have a fruit stand
tractor outside of stewart's grandma's house
the first leg of our trip took us to oliver bc, stewart's HOMELAND. we even got to go wine tasting at burrowing owl. and hang out with his family. stewart's grandma lives in a house that is on an orchard and has this old fruit stand on the property. i love that place and was happy to take home a few jars of pickles (yum!).

then we spent the week in kelowna and i didn't really take any pictures. can you believe it? i can! i was so tired and seth was in the throes of teething and a growth spurt. i just wanted to die most of our time there. but, stew's mom took some pictures of stew and seth in his hallowe'en costume:

and then! wahoo! PG! yes!

rated pg rollergirls invitational
my new tattoo! foxicorn or uni-fox!

seth was held by a lot a lot of pretty ladies. and i had such a good time seeing everyone and again didn't take enough pictures. i don't at all wish to move back there, but always love seeing my ladies. especially loki, ora, and babyblue. there was also knitting. and i have a new pattern soon to be posted here and on ravelry. i've also knit up a pair of baby mitts and started on some socks that *might* be for my dad for xmas.

the sky in the chilcotin
and then yesterday we started our long journey home. it was beautiful and dry out until we got to boston bar. and then so rainy. yuck. and this morning we slept in so no cafe deux soleils breakfast, just way overpriced lunch on the ferry. double yuck. XO

happy colonization day!: part 2?

i'm not sure which day of colonization came first: canada day? or thanksgiving? anyway, colonization is whack. when my dad was here a few weeks ago he told me this joke:

q: "why did white men go to the moon?"
a: "to see if there was any more Aboriginal land to steal."

LOVE IT.

pumpkin squash pie
i made this pie today and was so full i barely ate any of it.

me and helvetica
and this is me and helvetica on a walk last week with uncle nick. do not get him confused with grandpa nick. anyway, today was nicer but i spent the whole day cooking. we had a nice dinner. yay for friends. and i'm "thankful" i didn't get the job in victoria: this is just too good.

so much to do before vacation. must make to do list and DO it. yikes! xo

tomorrow's on it's way, there's always new songs to sing...

well, i managed to finish eden's swallowtail shawl in time for xmas. just in the nick of time, actually. oi! it was a fun knit, though i know i definitely messed up a few times but it turned out great. and this colourway looks so great with this pattern, i'm kinda jealous i didn't keep it for myself. i also managed to knit my grandma a pair of socks, and finish up my post-thesis socks. i've worn the shit out of all my hand knit socks and will probably hand wash them here in a few minutes, hang them to dry, etc. i can't wait to wear them all over again. hahaha. i've been knitting plain socks at work the past two weeks and am excited to keep knitting this pair i'm working on with the yarn i bought in portland at yarnia. i think i'll hold off taking a picture until they're done (mainly b/c my charger is still mia) and i'd like to keep them a secret. i've also re-picked up my forestry cardigan and was working on it a bit today...and also will cast on for another pair of socks with KDG yarn. i just need to dig out one of my sock books and hunt down a pattern.

the holidays are over. thank heavens! sure my grandma's birthday is still tomorrow and it's new year's on thursday (3 day weekend coming up! woop!) but i'm definitely considering this run over. both stew and i are happy to have left prince george and are still settling in here, but the holidays definitely threw us for a loop. and both concurred we'd trade everything for a herkes-legere xmas any day! so less stressful! so much more fun! i love my family and love hanging with them and doing things with them, but "family" is definitely overrated. and "family gatherings" are also too much for me to handle. i just don't have the care or the ability to put on that face (the social one) for more than 2-4 hours. which, in all honesty, makes going to work somewhat hard (i wish i didn't have to work ever!). i need to remember that i'm not 16 anymore and can't just play all night. i need more me time! more me and stew time!

i'm going to lie down and maybe get my sanity back. i hope you all had a great holiday!! xo

"if they get laughs..more power to them" trip pics v.1

pictures from ye ol' holiday. more found on flickr.
lillooet
we drove through lillooet...it was so windy through the pemberton highway and traffic coming out of whistler was INSANE. should have taken the canyon, no doubt, because it was dead on our way back.

pemberton highway/lillooet
more lillooet/duffy lake road. so beautiful.

cats at s/s house
and when in vancouver we stayed with friends who, luckily, lived right in the west end. after they headed to bed we played yarn with their kitties who attacked my hands and acted all perplexed by the material upon them.

miso ramen
mmm, double meat. not what i ordered, but oh well.

sun tower, beatty st. vancouver
the sun tower on the cusp of chinatown. my favourite building by far.
